Ideal layout

Saw this in an Artcraft kitchen catalogue and loved the layout. I felt that lightbulb just went off! We would break down walls and open up the kitchen, dining room and living room and turn it all into an open loft like space.

Goals list for Kitchen Planning

I think we need to spend at least 1/2 an hour a night devoted to this kitchen planning otherwise it will never get done! I feel that kitchen cabinets is a huge decision to make so we're going to start contacting kitchen cabinet makers and see if they can send us catalogs to look at. Also, I really feel that our style of kitchen is modern and not traditional/French.

I know that I don't like dark colors for the kitchen either since our kitchen is dark to begin with -we need to make it as bright as possible.

I need to make a list of the kitchen cabinet companies and go on from there.

Dream Kitchen Wishlist

I have decided to put down everything that I want regardless of cost and then whittle down to what's possible and realistic especially since we have no idea about budgets right now.

Here is what I have so far:

.  double kitchen sink overlooking the garden.
. want space to put my espresso maker and kitchenaid mixer on the counter permanently.
. the whole kitchen is to be removed -I want everything changed including appliances, light fixtures and flooring. The flooring is truly ugly!
. if we could use sustainable materials, that would be a bonus.
. stainless steel appliances.
. don't want granite countertops.
. knock down walls between kitchen and dining room
. knock down wall between dining and front foyer -?
. sliding door from dining room to outside.
. loads of storage and counter space.
. an island
. appliances behind the island
. maybe extend the kitchen into the dining room.
. may need to rearrange the entire kitchen, dining and lounge area -make it more like a loft space -?
. recreate new storage area/pantry for the stair landing leading into the library/tv room.
. refrigerator with ice maker
. double oven -?
. banquette
. skylight
. cover up backdoor
